Carla’s journey in education began in 1992 as a library media specialist, where she discovered the joy of watching students unlock the code of reading and embrace the challenges inspired by great teachers. In 1998, she became the Missouri representative for Benchmark Education Company—a role that has allowed her to serve educators across the state and deepen her lifelong passion for advancing literacy.

Out of this passion, Carla founded The EdUCater Team—a group of literacy specialists dedicated to supporting Missouri schools. Their mission is simple: to walk alongside teachers and districts as they bring evidence-based practices to life in both English Language Arts (ELA) and English Language Development (ELD), ensuring that every student, including multilingual learners, has the opportunity to succeed.

At The EdUCater Team, relationships come first. Whether it’s exploring new resources, trying out digital tools, planning professional learning, or simply answering questions along the way, Carla and her team are committed to making the experience supportive, practical, and even fun. One of their guiding values is creating a “wow” moment—helping educators feel not just equipped, but truly cared for.
